"The Goddess Danaë (Yemoja)"

"The Goddess Danaë (Yemoja)"
 36" x 36", oil on canvas, © Linda Falorio 1989.

This painting was inspired by several dreams wherein  this ancient goddess, whose name I at first did not know, communicated to me that I should paint her. As I later discovered, she is also known as the Orisha Yemoja, "The Mother of Fish," in Voudoo, and in the Ifa religion of West Africa. She is a powerful goddess, invoked for renewal, fertility, youthfulness and abundance -- but not for marriage!  (see Oshun for this . . .)  having worn-out more than one lover with her prodigious energies. Goddess of the oceans, she grants prosperity to her many devoted children.
